The user interface of the both the software you use on your computer as well as the Help feature on the remote are amazing. Finally an application that has a great user experience. We use the remote for our TV, cable box, surround-sound DVD system, Wii, and Apple TV.
I have had our remote for about two years and just bought another for a Christmas present. Both remotes work great and there are two very happy families. This remote does it all and I never use the other remotes anymore. There is a little learning curve but easy enough to learn.
I purchased the Logitech Harmony 520 Universal Remote after seeing commercials for the more expensive model(s). I only have 4 components, so I gambled on this unit doing what I wanted, namely all in one, and eliminate the need for numerous different remote controls. Not only did the Logitech work great, but if anything happens to not work correctly, you simply push the "HELP" button, and the remote corrects the problem by asking you "YES" or "NO" questions. Highly recommend this item.
After 11 months my Harmony 520 stopped. All but Activity, Device and Help keys seems to be dead. Logitech service support was a charm, and I receive a Harmony 510 to replace the defective 520 in Rio de Janeiro, all taxes paid (Harmony 520 model was discontinued). So, I recommend to buy another model (Harmony 510) and/or to buy with an extended warranty.
I have owned this remote for over 1 year. How sweet is that. I just can't believe i got rid of 4 separate remotes and have never needed to pull the old ones out. I occasionally have a problem with syncing everything but that is easily fixed. I then had to locate the model numbers of my Directv DVR, 58" Samsung Plasma, Panasonic Blu Ray Player, and Yamaha AV receiver. I installed the software from the enclosed cd.
When i hooked up the remote via usb cable it prompted me to download a newer version of the software. Thought it was a little strange but whatever. I love this remote. The batteries last about a month. When i push this button, the remote turns on my AV receiver and switches it to the right input mode, then turns on my DVR and changes it to the right channel. I also configured it to Listen to Rock, Watch TV, Watch Blu Ray, Listen to Ipod, and Play video game. I have purchased 2 sets of rechargable batteries and simply switch out the dead ones with a precharged set and i'm ready to go.
It worked the first time without a hitch. First, if you have any brains and a little computer skill you can figure out the internet based configuration. Everything on the remote still works like new. I must say that was the most difficult part of the entire setup having to get behind my TV and other units. I have since added different single touch activities such as Listen to 80's (music). After 1 year of use a couple of the numbers on the number pad have a little wear. The backlight is also a nice feature and works very well at night.
